Health Evidence Resource for Washington State (HEAL WA)
As of July 2025, LMHCAs have access to HEALWA (Health Evidence Resource for Washington State), a state-funded online health sciences library managed by the University of Washington Health Sciences Library. It provides 24/7 access to high-quality, evidence-based clinical tools, research databases, and full-text medical and mental health journals. This now also includes access to PsycARTICLES.
PsycARTICLES provides access to 119 journals published by the American Psychological Association (APA) and affiliated journals, regarding social and behavioral sciences, including their flagship publication, American Psychologist. It is considered a crucial resource for research in psychology and related disciplines like social and behavioral sciences.
In general, I don't advise writing ESA letters for your clients, unless you've gotten specific training to be able to do this type of specific evaluation so you can fully understand your responsibilities and be aware of the laws around this issue.
Local (WA-based) Resources: There are very few local/WA-based therapists that offer this type of support. They might require that the client is currently under their care, which could result in the client needing to end services with you. If you know of other resources, please send them my way!
National Resources: These resources might do their own assessment - or might require the client to verify that they are under the care of a therapist. If your client needs documentation and has no other options, these organizations might be their best alternative.
